Oireachtas Committee slammed for promoting seminar with IFPA abortion campaigners

The Life Institute has said that the Oireachtas Committee looking at the 8th amendment has shown the process to be a farce by promoting a seminar on legalising abortion in Ireland.

Jan O’Sullivan TD, a member of the Oireachtas Abortion Committee sent an email invitation to a seminar organised by leading abortion campaigners, the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA), pushing for reform of Ireland’s abortion laws to the Committee.

The Committee has already been criticised for being top heavy TDs who describe themselves as ‘pro-choice’ despite recent opinion polls showing that only a minority of people – between 23 and 28% - describe themselves as being in favour of abortion without restriction.

Niamh Uí Bhriain of the Life Institute said that it was very clear that members of the Oireachtas Committee were determined to push for abortion without restriction, and were using taxpayer funds to do so.

“The IFPA are a member of Planned Parenthood, the world’s biggest abortion provider, and it seems that some of our TDs are aligning themselves with people who make money from killing preborn babies,” she said.

“The title of this seminar is a joke,” she added. “Abortion isn’t healthcare, and it is certainly not women-centred healthcare, either for the baby girls whose lives are ended or for the women who are hurt by abortion.”
