About Us

Mission statement: 

Health Professionals for Life (CLG) is an Irish voluntary organisation for Health Professionals who desire to uphold the practice of healthcare as a service to human life with potential, at all stages. It is open to all Health Professionals, in practice, retired and students. It aims to provide evidence-based and factual information to Health Professionals who are concerned with the ethical questions relating to patient care and practitioner responsibility at all stages of human life. 

Objective: 

The object of Health Professionals for Life is to offer educational and professional support to Health Professionals who are involved in the ethical questions relating to patient care and practitioner responsibility at all stages of human life.

Board

The Board comprises health professionals who uphold respect for life at all stages from conception to natural death. We welcome expressions of interest from health professionals to join the Board.


Chair

Mary E. Fitzgibbon is a registered nurse and midwife. She is a Lecturer in Nursing & Health Care Sciences in MTU Kerry. She graduated from Ulster University and Queen’s University. She was formerly a Lecturer/Practitioner in Midwifery and Women’s Health in King’s College, University of London before returning to Ireland to take up a post in nursing education.

   

Secretary Dr. Micheal Cooke is a GP based in Glenties Donegal

Treasurer Dr. Elizabeth Cullen is a retired GP based in Kilkenny

Dr. Deirdre Gleeson is a specialist in occupational health medicine in Nass, Co. Kildare

Deirdre graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 1992 and is dual qualified in Occupational Health Medicine and General Practice. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and a Member of the Irish College of General Practitioners. She is the founder of the charity The Medwise Calcutta Project that sponsors the education and welfare of street children in Calcutta / Kolkata.

She believes that her role as a doctor is to serve all her patients to the best of her ability and to protect the right to life of each patient from conception to natural death.
