84-Year-old pro-life activist shot while leafleting in Michigan

Woman recovering from injuries.

An 84-year-old woman was shot while out canvassing in the Lake Odessa neighborhood.

Right to Life Michigan issued a press release saying, “The 84-year-old victim said that she was shot in the back/shoulder while leaving a residence during a heated conversation, and that the man who shot her was not a part of her conversation.”

The statement continues, “The victim does not know the identity or motive of her shooter. The victim is still recovering from her gunshot wound and wishes to remain anonymous while the criminal investigation proceeds.”

It was reported that pro life groups in Michigan had been contacted by authorities to warn of the likelihood of attacks “violent in nature or efforts to vandalize property to maintain awareness that there’s the possibility for disruptions or violence or vandalism”.

It is understood the victim was canvassing against a proposed pro abortion amendment to Michigan state law called ‘Proposal 3’.

Late last May the Guardian published an article featuring an interview from a Michigan pro abortion activist who claimed, “The Republican party in Michigan has just been hijacked by the extreme right”, adding, “Somehow, Christian values are things they want,”.

Proposal 3 seeks to enshrine access to abortion in Michigan state law after the striking down of Roe- V- Wade removed the supposed right to abortion on a federal level 3 months ago.

Although the motivation of the shooter in this case remains unconfirmed abortion rights group Jane’s Revenge is reported to have claimed responsibility for a number of attacks on pro-life care centres and churches.

The group had reportedly declared ‘open season’ on such facilities and pro life groups in retribution for the Supreme Court’s overturn of the Roe-v-Wade ruling.
