An X (formerly Twitter) user has taken to social media to slam people who criticised her for giving birth to her daughter who was diagnosed with a life-limiting condition, while questioning their claims of being “pro-choice”.
Christina, who goes by the username @abarefootmomma, has opened up about her experience of losing her first born daughter in the summer of 2020, who was diagnosed with anencephaly and lived for just 6 hours after birth, particularly pointing out that a disability diagnosis is not good reason to abort a baby.
The mother, who also suffered a miscarriage, regularly shares about the grief in her loss - but also about the life of her child. She took again to X this week, to express the importance of cherishing her short life.
“[T]here was no way my daughter was going to live long past birth but that doesn’t mean I should have made the choice to kill her. She lived 6 long hours in the arms of people who loved her,” she said with a photo of her holding her daughter.
“[H]er diagnosis limited her earthly life but gave her eternal life sooner,” she added.
The post soon went viral and the mother received a range of comments showing love and support through her grief.
“Oh Christina, what a beautiful picture of two beautiful souls. What a gift ... blessings to you and yours,” one person said.
“There is no substitute to being able to see your child eye to eye. Even if but for a moment,” said another.
However, her post did attract attention from advocates for abortion, who criticised her for chosing life, claiming that she allowed her daughter to be “tortured”.
“[S]o you tortured the baby for 6 hrs, that's evil,” one person said.
“The woman's choice, in the picture; I have no issues w/it. I do wonder if the little one suffered for those 6 hours--and I loathe that people who should be minding their own business-call abortion "to kill it",” said another.
In response to these comments, Christina made a second post, with a picture of her beside the grave of her daughter saying:
Imagine getting flamed for giving birth to your daughter, holding her until she died and then going to her funeral 5 days later all because other people think I should’ve aborted her.
If y’all are so pro choice, why are you bothered by the CHOICE I made to keep my daughter?? pic.twitter.com/YJGWwo3cWE

This is sadly not the first time she has had to call out abortion advocates for their comments. After receiving backlash from another post she made about her daughter earlier this year, she retorted with:
“[T]o all the people who are throwing fits in my comment section on MY tweet - here is my daughter and I. She had anencephaly and lived for 6 hours. I did NOT kill her. I did NOT torture her. She was unable to live due to her diagnosis and I CHOSE to go through labor to meet her.”
Sandra Parda of the Life Institute commented saying: “Praise God for this beautiful woman’s life, and praise God for the precious life of her little girl. Even though she only lived for 6 hours, it does not undervalue her life and we are in awe at Christina’s bravery in sharing her story amidst some horrid and insensitive comments from the pro-abortion side. All it tells us is that they don’t stand for choice, they just want abortion, without any thought as to how it might affect people.”
