On Sunday May 24 Cavan Choose Life branch held a prayer protest at the HSE Offices in Cavan town.
The protest was to highlight our grave concern re the termination of over 60, 000 innocent little babies lives since abortion was legalised in the Republic of Ireland. It is likely that some of these died a painful death at Cavan General Hospital if feticide was carried out as recommended for late-term abortions, the protesters said, also pointing to the long term possible risks of depression, infertility etc to mothers of these babies.
The protest also expressed "our deep concerns about the ongoing attempts by the heartless pro-abortion political parties to further extend the opportunities to terminate lives by abolishing the 3-day waiting period," the Cavan group said.
"Incidentally since abortion was legalised over 10,000 women changed their minds about having an abortion during this 3-day waiting period. Surely all decent people should agree that minimising the rate of abortion would be good for Ireland," they added.
Another issue raised during the protest was the appalling action of the Irish Government In allocating over €50m in recent years to fund abortions in Africa. Surely these funds could have been used to give financial help to mothers with a crisis pregnancy thereby reducing the economic pressure to have an abortion, the group asked.
Choose Life members were also shocked to hear that 80 tiny babies have been born alive after botched abortions and left to die. Surely these infants deserved a coffin and Christian burial. What happened to their tiny bodies -were they sold at a profit for profitable pharma research or disposed as hospital waste?
The Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary were led by Deacon Andy Brady as were prayers to St Joseph, patron of the family. The Hymn to our Lady "Bring flowers of the rarest, bring flowers of the fairest" was also sung by those attending this protest.
