The General Attorney for Florida has launched a lawsuit against Planned Parenthood saying the claims it made minimising the serious risks that come with taking the abortion pill could have ‘wrongly deceived’ women and amounted to ‘lying to the public’.
According to LifeNews, the lawsuit targets the claim that Planned Parenthood made that states that the abortion pill mifepristone is “safer than Tylenol.” Such a claim has enabled Planned Parenthood to have a profit margin of 500% from the abortion pills, as well as endangering the lives of pregnant women by downplaying the risks.
It is well known that the abortion pill does come with serious risks that include hemorrhage, sepsis, and death, whereas the FDA has also said on their mifepristone label that 2.9 to 4.6 percent of women end up in the ER following the abortion pill.
The lawsuit draws upon data that finds that 1 in 10 women end up in hospital after taking the abortion pill, and up to 36 deaths have been reported as a result of taking the abortion pill since 2000, a much higher rate than the outcomes of taking pain killer medication like Tylenol.
Planned Parenthood could see a penalty fine of up to $350 million, $10,000 for every abortion pill sold since they made the claim.
“We want to hold people accountable for hurting our women, for hurting our children, and these lawsuits are seeking to do it,” Attorney General James Uthmeier said in announcing the action. “They have been wrongfully deceiving women out there, advertising that these new chemical abortion pills are safer than Tylenol and pain medications you’d get over the shelf. Our evidence suggests that is entirely false.”
“The evidence shows hospitalizations at significantly higher rates than going to the hospital for taking Tylenol. They’re lying to the public. They need to be held accountable,” he said.
40 Days for Life shared the news on their social media saying that “40 Days for Life sounded the alarm about Planned Parenthood’s “safer than Tylenol” lie. Florida is now taking action—suing over the deception that puts women in danger. Keep praying and speaking the truth. Women deserve better.”

This is not the first time pro-abortion companies or organisations have promoted misleading facts about the safety of the abortion pill. Last year, several stories hit the news of women who died after experiencing complications following taking the abortion pill, however, abortion advocates, including former US Vice President Kamala Harris tried to blame pro-life laws. Pro-lifers were quick to correct this misleading information, with Dr Dermot Kearny, known in the UK for providing the abortion pill reversal and saving many babies, reaffirming on a post on X.
“The young mother in question died as a result of medical negligence after she had already undergone a legal chemical abortion. Serious life-threatening complications are common after chemical abortions and dozens of mothers have died in recent years following such procedures.”
Sandra Parda of the Life Institute commented, saying: “This is a fantastic move from Florida and we hope and pray that those involved in spreading and promoting this misinformation will be held to account.”
“Abortion advocates claim that abortion is about women’s rights, however, we fail to see how making false claims or withholding information about the serious risks associated with abortion procedures has anything to do with advocating for women.”
“As we have said time and time again, those who favour abortion care most about protecting abortion. In this case, this has been done by making it seem safer than what it is without any regard to the serious complications that could arise if a woman were to proceed with the abortion. There’s nothing pro-woman about that.”
