In another move that favours unborn babies, President Donald Trump has shut down a US agency that is known to be the largest funder for abortion worldwide.
After his election last November, President Trump tasked the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, and former presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in order to cut down on federal government costs, where they had hinted at defunding Planned Parenthood.
This week, according to Steven Mosher of Population Research Institute, Musk announced that they would be shutting down the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which is known to be the world’s largest funder for abortion.
“We’re shutting [the United States Agency for International Development] down. With regards to the USAID stuff, I went over it with [the president] in detail and he agreed that we should shut it down,” said Musk.
Currently, the website for USAID has been shut down, and all employees have gone on paid leave whilst DOGE conduct and audit of the agency.
Mr Mosher said that “in our most optimistic moments, however, we never imagined that an American president would simply shut down the entire anti-baby, anti-natal—indeed, anti-human—enterprise in one fell swoop.”
Explaining why he has been critical of USAID, he said “it routinely ignores the pro-life laws of the countries it operates in by promoting abortion within their borders.”
He says that USAID had also funded explicit sex education and gender ideology programs - and accused it of forcing “countries to adopt population limitation programs on pain of not receiving foreign aid”.
As they await the final confirmation that USAID has been permanently shut down, Mr Mosher says that Population Research Institute will monitor the major abortion/population control groups and said that “if and when the State Department decides to resume certain foreign aid projects, we will be watching to make sure that these groups are never again on the receiving end of your tax dollars.”
Since his inauguration two weeks ago, President Trump also pardoned 23 pro-life advocates for being unfairly prosecuted for their peaceful pro-life work, and released a video to support the pro-lifers as they engaged in their annual March for Life, in what seems to be a series of moves to favour the pro-life movement.
Sandra Parda of the Life Institute commented, saying: “It is very good to see that both President Trump and Mr Musk recognise the lack of necessity for funds to be used towards abortion, especially if they are being used to coerce people into abortions that they do not want.”
“Of course, we should do our best to support people who need aid, but abortion is not a necessary aid. Instead, we should be aiding people in funding for appropriate healthcare, and maternal and family care, so that every single life is cherished from the moment of conception until natural death.”
