"One of the boxes fell out of the container, spilling its contents on to the ground. I stared at a large object but couldn't tell what it was. I called my boss to come over and take a look. All of a sudden we realised with great horror that it was the decapitated body of a baby. Other workers started vomiting."

The Weisbeg Incident

Collecting and Storing the Dead

Malvin Weisberg owned a business called M.A.L. which was collecting dead fetal bodies from abortionists mainly from Los Angeles but also from the far corners of the USA. He hired a pathologist to examine the bodies and send lab reports back to the abortionists. Medi-Cal would pay for most of his business. Faced with the costly problem of how to dispose of the ever accumulating bodies, Weisberg decided to rent a huge land / sea metal storage container, put it in the backyard of his post Woodland Hills home and quietly stored the carnage. When he failed to pay his rent for the container, it was repossessed. As workers tried to move the 20 foot steel box which was filled from front to back, the immense weight broke their winch.

Bodies Discovered - February 6th 1982

As workers opened the doors to the steel box now parked in the container yard, they were overwhelmed with the stench of decaying human flesh. Whey they looked inside, they saw bodies strewn among open boxes and plastic containers. One worker described the scene as a "war zone" and reported watching a headless body tumble forward.

"One of the boxes fell out of the container, spilling its contents on to the ground. I stared at a large object but couldn't tell what it was. I called my boss to come over and take a look. All of a sudden we realised with great horror that it was the decapitated body of a baby. Other workers started vomiting."Hank Stolk, Employee of Martin Container Corporation.

Los Angeles County Health Department officials were called to the scene and began the process of transferring bodies to the coroner's office.

Autopsies 16,433 body count - March 16 1982

Dr. Eva Hauser assisted by Dr. Joseph Wood, weighed and measured at least 43 of larger baby bodies. Some had been dead for more than 2 years. Some were at least 30 weeks old. All were severely mutilated through poisoning or dismemberment with surgical knives. The putrid smell, the constant buzz of flies, and the horrifying sight of mangled infant bodies made the autopsy procedure difficult for the doctors.

Many of the bodies still had labels which identified the abortionists. The names of infamous Dr. Gordon Goei and Dr. Scott Ricke, both of Inglewood Women's Hospital, were seen most frequently. (Goei was taken to court by the Board of Medical Quality Assurance after causing gross injuries to mothers at Cedars Sinai Hospital and Ricke was prosecuted for having sex with a patient)

Public Officials React

Since Los Angeles County now had possession of the bodies, they had to decide how to dispose of them. At the request of the Feminist Women's Health Centre, an abortion business, the ACLU filed suit to have the babies bodies incinerated, rather than buried as requested by the Country Board of Supervisors led by Supervisor Michael Antonovich. President Ronald Regan sent a letter to Dr. Philip Dreisbach of the California Pro-Life Medical Association, to decry the killing of these children and to encourage a memorial service. On May 30 1982, State Senator David Roberti, Senator Alex Garcia, Supervisor Antonovich, Supervisor Deane Dana, Dr. Gerald Navarre, and Hank Stolk held a press conference to urge District Attorney John Van de Kamp to release the bodies for burial.

Burial and Religious Services - October 6 1985

After a lengthy court battle between Los Angeles County and the abortion industry, the 16,433 bodies were crammed into several large pine boxes and buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery in East Los Angeles. During the burial Americans Committed to Loving the Unwanted conducted a prayer service led by many political dignitaries, clergy and concerned citizens. The Marine Colour Guard stood at attention as the coffins were lowered into the earth, Supervisor Michael Antonovich read a eulogy provided by President Reagan, who pleaded that these children would not die in vain.

Never prosecuted Although Martin Weiberg was clearly in violation of state laws regulating the storage of "human waste", he was never prosecuted. Inglewood Women's Hospital, the abortion mill which supplied most of the bodies to Weisberg eventually had its licence revoked by the State Health Facility Licensing Division because of several horrendous deaths to mothers and because of repeated violations of the Health Code. Dr. Morton Barke, owner of the Inglewood Women's Hospital sold the site to Dr. Edward Allred who immediately opened the site as Family Planning Associates, the world's largest abortion business. Barke now works for Allred.
