Pro-Life Street Event is a Powerful Witness

One of the most memorable moments of our street session the past week was when a little girl stopped and pulled on her mother’s hand, perplexed and excited, pointing and asking her mother to see the baby models that we had at our table.

The medical models that we have always attracted plenty of onlookers- especially the little ones. They always have been amazed at the wonder of how small they were once too. The children get it. They see the fetus models and they understand. They understand the humanity of the little baby in the womb, they understand that it is a little baby. How far did the media, schools, and the government have to spend on propaganda to make us think that the baby in the womb isn’t a human and that abortion is a form of care?

One striking conversation that I personally had was with a woman who was absolutely outraged by the poster I was holding, stating that the abortion pill can be reversed and that there is hope. She became very heated, saying that there “is no scientific proof”. Scientific proof of what? I explained to her that the scientific proof readily available is the breathing, living children who have been saved through abortion pill reversal - a scientific method approved by medical doctors.

In fact, last week Heartbeat International released statistics of 8,000 babies that we know of who have been saved through the ongoing campaign. To that angry woman, that was not enough. In fact, she eventually acknowledged that a baby in the womb is a baby, but in a loud and angry voice she argued that they should be put to death if they are suffering, whether they are in the womb or outside of it. This woman was loudly and proudly arguing for infanticide.

And the irony in this? This same woman was on her way to a Palestinian protest that was being held at the same time. She was going to protest against the suffering of thousands of people in Gaza. I asked her a question in response—that we know so many people have been suffering in Gaza: adults, children, babies. Surely their right to life is not diminished by their suffering? Of course she was outraged by the question, calling me names and storming off.

That slippery slope of abortion leading to the killing of newborn babies isn’t new. We saw this debate in America, where it was argued that infanticide should be allowed to “ease suffering.” We see it in the Netherlands and Belgium, where it is permitted to euthanize newborn babies on certain occasions under the premise of ‘care’.

When we stand on the street, we are not simply holding signs or displaying models - we are witnessing the value of every human life, from the moment of conception. The reactions we receive, whether curiosity from a child or anger from an adult, reveal how deeply this issue touches people and makes people think. Yet even in disagreement, we remain there because we believe that every life, no matter how small or vulnerable, deserves to be seen and defended.
